19th Century Antique Dough Bin Console Table

£0.01

I was thinking when I first saw this 19th century dough bin, dating back to Circa 1840-1880, it would make a stunning side table or hall console. Good amount of storage inside should you need it. Clearly it's original use is not going to work so well now, as this would be an inordinate amount of dough to be processing at home.

The patina on the elm is sublime, it highlights all the wonderful grain and colour the dough bin has acquired over time. There are many marks, old stains giving it charm, warmth and it looks really nice. You wouldn't want to change or alter it for the originality it gives you.

What makes the dough bin even more attractive, is the construction. The tapered bin with its slanted sides and broad front to the lid, sits on a timber frame with side and central cross stretcher. All the joints are in good condition and are not loose.

Plus, it has two beautiful decorative iron hinges with the original pins to hold them in place. There is also a cock bead lip that runs around the bottom of the bin and a later added internal base panel.

A really great honest piece of history with some of the nicest patina you can ever see, it just shouts quality.
