About Campbell Vintage
Carefully Sourced Antiques, Vintage & Industrial Furniture
At Campbell Vintage, we buy and sell antique, vintage, retro and industrial furniture, decorative objects and collectibles for homes and business environments. We choose pieces for their craftsmanship, character and ability to bring individuality and warmth into a space.
Sourcing within the UK and internationally, we look for objects with considered proportions, interesting construction and lasting appeal. From a substantial antique chest to a small, beautifully made everyday object, each offers something worth looking at more closely.
Over 30 Years of Furniture Making, Restoration & Interior Experience
Campbell Vintage is run by Mark Johnson, whose approach to antiques is informed by more than thirty years of hands-on experience in handmade furniture, bespoke commissions, restoration and interiors.
That experience shapes how we examine each piece. Its appeal begins with how it was made: the choice of timber, the joints holding a frame together, the fit of a drawer, the proportions of a moulding and the care taken over details that may only become apparent on closer inspection.
Understanding construction helps us recognise workmanship, identify alterations and appreciate the features that make an object worth preserving. It also helps us explain what makes a piece distinctive, beyond its appearance alone.
Our selection brings together that practical knowledge with an understanding of how furniture and decorative objects can be used and enjoyed in homes today.
Preserving Originality, Character & History
Our approach begins with preservation. We value the surviving materials, surfaces and construction that connect an object to its maker and the people who have used it.
We do not aim to return every piece to an immaculate, newly finished appearance. Where intervention is needed, we favour sympathetic restoration, guided by the individual object and respect for what survives. Original finishes, softened edges, wear around handles and traces of earlier repairs can all contribute to its character and help us understand its journey.
These details allow an object to continue speaking to us. They offer evidence of how it was made, handled, adapted and lived with. Some reveal a great deal; others remain open to interpretation.
We distinguish the character of age from damage or repairs that a buyer needs to understand. Our descriptions and detailed photographs help the next owner make an informed choice and appreciate the piece as it is.
Through close observation, research and The Campbell Vintage Journal, we share what we can establish about construction, materials, makers and historical context. Passing an object on means passing on that understanding too, so its story can be appreciated by its next owner and the generations that follow.
Our personal philosophy is simple:
If we would happily live with it in our own home, we believe someone else will enjoy it just as much in theirs.
Sustainability, Reuse & the Continuing Life of Antiques
Antique and vintage furniture demonstrates the value of making things well and keeping them in use. Many pieces have already served successive generations and still have much to offer.
Choosing existing furniture keeps materials in circulation and can reduce the need for newly manufactured pieces. Bringing an overlooked object back into use allows its useful life to continue.
Furniture originally made for another setting or purpose can also find a place in homes today. A workshop cabinet may provide practical domestic storage; a country-house table may sit comfortably in a contemporary interior. A change of setting can reveal new possibilities while preserving the character of the piece.
For us, continued use and careful ownership are central to the lasting appeal of antiques.
