Chip Carved Oak Stool Circa 18th Century - Ideal as a side table

Early 18th Century Walnut Rectangular Stool

Circa 1720. This walnut stool features a rich, dark patina, likely deepened by years of proximity to open fires, highlighting the intricate grain patterns that tell the story of its long history. The stool’s top is adorned with elegant arched carvings above a fluted border, showcasing the craftsmanship of the period.

Supporting the stool are sturdy, block-style legs, each meticulously carved with simple ring motifs at the top and bottom. These legs are secured with traditional wooden pegs, enhancing the stool’s rustic charm. At the base, four low stretchers provide additional stability and serve as a convenient footrest.

An intriguing detail is the engraving “TP” on one of the lower block ends, hinting at the stool’s provenance or the initials of a former owner, adding a layer of personal history to this exquisite piece.

Well proportion, beautifully made, exquisitely carved and initialed. Available to buy.
