Full Description
This authentic Northwest Persian tribal hall runner dates to the mid-20th century, circa the 1940s–1950s, and reflects the enduring traditions of Kurdish-influenced village weaving from the Azerbaijan region of Persia. Long and narrow in format, it was designed specifically for domestic passageways, where durability and visual rhythm were equally important.
The design is anchored by seven bold medallions running the length of a deep madder red field, creating a strong sense of movement and balance. These are framed by three decorative borders in saturated electric blue, providing contrast and definition while enclosing a wealth of symbolic detail. Accents of ivory, soft pink, warm browns, rich reds, and vibrant orange add depth and nuance to the palette.
Throughout the runner, tribal motifs of birds, vines, flowers, hooked forms, and crosses appear, each traditionally associated with protection, continuity, and storytelling. These elements are woven directly into the structure rather than applied decoratively, reinforcing the honesty and authenticity of the piece.
The wool pile is dense and robust, offering a plush yet practical surface that has worn beautifully over time. Gentle surface wear and subtle fading enhance the character of the rug without compromising its integrity, lending it the patina collectors and interior designers value so highly.
Perfectly suited to hallways, corridors, or long entrance spaces, this runner brings history, warmth, and a sense of quiet romance to both traditional and contemporary interiors.
