This elegant Edwardian Queen Anne Revival carved giltwood wall mirror is an excellent example of the quality produced during the renewed appreciation of eighteenth-century English design at the turn of the twentieth century.

Rather than attempting to reproduce an early eighteenth-century original exactly, the maker has interpreted the Queen Anne aesthetic through Edwardian craftsmanship, creating a mirror that feels both refined and highly decorative while remaining restrained in proportion.

The frame is carved throughout in timber rather than relying upon applied composition ornament. The depth of carving is immediately evident in the sweeping acanthus scrolls, pierced upper crest and richly modelled lower apron, where the ornament flows naturally across the frame rather than appearing as applied decoration. This construction not only required considerably more labour but has also proved significantly more durable over time.
