A stunning example of a break fronted oak carved console or hall table with two frieze drawers and some beautiful refined detailing.

Step back into the last quarter of the 1800s in the 19th century and you really do come across some exquisitely detailed furniture. The oak on this table has a little bit of everything going on starting with the fretwork cut pediment upstand, to the stepped edge top with a subtle breakfront adding more refinement. What I love is the hidden frieze drawers within the detailed carved front. The lower cornice trim beneath seeks to hide the possibility of opening them cleverly hidden. Slip your fingers under each drawer to find the recess allowing you to pull the drawers open. Look closely and you can see the 'Medullary Rays in the timber.

Medullary rays are a remarkable feature found in oak and various other hardwood species. They serve a crucial biological function in the growth and development of trees, while also contributing to the wood's distinctive and beautiful patterns and textures.

A carved roundel rosette to each  fluted leg, each leg has been turned with lots of interesting detail and has six fretwork cut bracketed corner supports. All this detail makes what would be a humble console table, servery or hall table an exceptionally great standout piece of Victorian furniture from the 1860s to1890s. Another nice feature is each leg is finished off with a small turned bun foot which you almost miss.

Something to admire and want to keep as they become harder to find.
