Full Description
The broad oak drawer case establishes the table’s proportions, with a stepped top and low rear upstand defining its upper edge. Two drawers flank a central carved floral rosette, their recessed vertical channels introducing a measured rhythm across the front.
Beneath the case, scroll-ended rails are repeated at the front and back. Their angled shaping follows the splay of the supporting legs, coordinating the upper framework with the stand beneath it. Visible joints and peg details contribute to the table’s constructional character.
The shaped trestle end supports introduce a Spanish Revival influence through their opposing curves, projecting details and broad feet. A profiled wooden stretcher carries this flowing geometry along the table’s length. Open spaces through the base balance the weight of the solid drawer case.
The surviving Berick Furniture plaque identifies the table with Beresford & Hicks, the London furniture manufacturers associated with Curtain Road, Shoreditch, and Hemsworth Street, Hoxton. A separate Leemings label records its connection to the Halifax retailer.
Warm oak grain, concentrated carving and an expressive framework give the table presence without overwhelming its practical purpose. Its shallow proportions suit a hallway, landing or sitting room, with useful storage beneath an uncluttered surface.

The table’s flowing framework and surviving retailer’s label invite a wider look at its design and history. Read The Balance of Structure and Curve in the Campbell Vintage Journal for more on its Arts & Crafts character, Spanish Revival influences and connection to Leemings of Halifax.

Our pieces have lived a life before coming to Campbell Vintage. As genuine antique and vintage items, they will naturally display signs of age, use and character, including minor marks, losses, wear, fading and patina acquired over time.
Wherever possible, we favour careful conservation over full restoration, preserving the original surfaces and natural character of each piece. Every item is individually inspected and prepared, with any notable restoration or repairs detailed in its product description.
Where there is visible historic evidence of woodworm, the piece is carefully inspected and treated as a precaution, regardless of whether there are any signs of current activity.
These characteristics form part of the piece’s authenticity and history. Please refer to the detailed condition report and photographs for a full assessment.
It now explains your philosophy very clearly: age is expected, preservation is intentional, each piece is individually assessed, and relevant work is disclosed.
