This Antique Rustic Pine Domed Trunk With Iron Straps Circa 1880 is a striking example of Late Victorian craftsmanship. Its warm pine patina is among the finest we’ve seen, with rich colour and depth that make this a truly decorative antique trunk. Rarely do Victorian pine trunks survive in such original condition, and this piece still retains all the charm of its 19th-century finish.
The domed top is strengthened with heavy iron strapping, while the corners are protected by robust fittings. Distinctive dog-tooth carved edges and solid timber knock bars were designed for both durability and detail. Skid bars underneath reveal its life as a pine travel trunk, built to be dragged and slid during journeys.
Inside, the trunk retains its original lining, along with a surviving label and the number “113”. Decorative iron studs along the edges and lid highlight its authentic construction. These features combine to make it one of the more desirable antique pine blanket chests of the Late Victorian period.
