The rich time worn original leather oozes the style once seen in the Victorian era. The leather scroll back flows seamlessly flows over the back, while the carved serpentine frame stands firmly on four original castors with ceramic wheels.
Heritage and Elegance – The button back leather has the most incredible, original and untouched character. Leather like this isn't created, it has matured like a fine wine. The cracks, natural wear borne out of everyday use is something to behold, cherish and admire.
Baluster turned spindles have taken many an elbow resting on the timeworn buttoned leather clad armrests over the past 150 plus years, while the owner would have sipped his or her favourite tipple and read the daily paper. You can only imagine the conversation had over the 150 years.
The casual laid back stance of the design is similar to many library chair designed armchairs produced in the mid 1800s. The leather is extremely high quality and rich in colour and will only improve with age. A classic armchair with a rich history.
The original springs are in place and can be seen in one of the photos, but the ancient webbing has been professionally replaced as you can see from the photo, helping to keep the integrity of the seat cushioning.
While the leather has all the wonderful timeworn age and cracks you would expect to see in an antique leather chair. The leather has been cleaned, nourished with leather cream to preserve its integrity and longevity.
Period: Manufactured during Circa 1871 - 1876. as the an advertisement in The Furniture Gazette, 22 July 1876, illustrated new premises of the firm to replace the old one in Bunhill Row London E.C. which was burned down by fire 1875-1876 and the label on this chair lists this address.
