This exceptional Regency faux bamboo painted chair dates from circa 1800–1820 and stands as a fine example of early 19th-century English decorative furniture. Faux bamboo furniture became fashionable during the Regency period, reflecting Britain’s fascination with the exotic and the influence of chinoiserie design.
The chair’s most arresting feature is its arched sunburst backrest, framed by spherical finials that visually connect the faux bamboo uprights and legs. This architectural detail lends the chair both elegance and a sense of movement, making it as sculptural as it is functional.
The rattan seat is expertly wrapped around the frame and finished with beading above and below, a thoughtful construction detail that adds both durability and refinement.
