This exceptional pair of table lamps sits firmly within the tradition of Anglo-Indian and Orientalist decorative arts, produced for the Western export market during the mid-20th century. Each lamp is carved from solid wood in deep relief, presenting a theatrical figurative scene framed by scrolling foliage, stylised architectural forms, and flowing decorative elements.
The carving is bold and expressive rather than rigidly formal, suggesting skilled artisan work intended for decorative impact rather than religious function.
