This oak folding chapel saddle seat bench circa 1910 is a stunning blend of historical craftsmanship and practical elegance. Believed to have come from a UK non-conformist chapel around 1900–1915, this bench exemplifies the era’s innovative approach to portable church seating—designed to fold away and make the space functional for both services and socials.
The bench’s bentwood backs cradle the spine with grace, while the distinctive saddle-shaped seats, borrowed from Windsor and chapel chair designs, offer unsurpassed comfort for long sittings. Condition: As you can imagine, our products have had a life before we got them, been used and cherished by many others before we received them. Therefore, you will see signs of ageing, natural wear, fading & marks which create their unique look. Some ancient splitting to edge of the left hand seat front edge, has had a good repair, screwed through, glued and plugged to the front edge. Very solid well made bench. Overall the condition is good and commensurate with its age.
