Full Description
This Mahogany Astral Glazed Edwardian Wall Display Cupboard, dating to around 1910, is a refined example of Arts and Crafts craftsmanship at the turn of the 20th century. Designed to be wall hung, it combines architectural presence with lightness, making it ideal for both traditional and eclectic interiors.
The single astral glazed door is the focal point, articulated with three graceful gothic cathedral arches that give the cupboard its distinctive Edwardian character. These arches are framed by glazed side panels and four upper panes, creating a bright, almost lantern-like effect that allows displayed objects to be viewed from multiple angles. The majority of the glass is original wavy Edwardian glazing, complete with subtle bubbles that speak to its age and authenticity.
Internally, the cupboard opens via a left-hand hinged door fitted with original brass hinges and a finely detailed stirrup drop handle. Inside are two removable mahogany shelves, each finished with a lipped edge on three sides, offering both practicality and visual refinement. The interior is lined in a deep blue-black velvet, providing a dramatic backdrop for ceramics, books, small sculptures, or curios.
Finished with a crisp moulded cornice and a conforming pediment below, this cupboard balances elegance with restraint. It is a piece that reflects the Arts and Crafts movement’s respect for materials, proportion, and honest craftsmanship, while remaining highly usable in a modern home.

Condition
As with all genuine antique furniture, this cupboard shows signs of its long life and careful use. There is natural ageing, surface wear, and subtle patina consistent with age, all of which contribute to its character.
The upper left-hand glass pane has a small crack in two places, which has been professionally stabilised using glazing adhesive to maintain the integrity of the cabinet. The remaining panes are original and intact. Overall, the cupboard is in good condition and very presentable, with wear entirely commensurate with an Edwardian piece of this age.
