19th Century Victorian Burr Walnut Writing Slope Brass Strapping
Imagine compiling a letter while admiring the craftmanship...this is something to write home about.
Burr Walnut and brass writing slope is absolutely charming, from the grain of the walnut to the care taken by the maker to decorate with bands of brass. The central decoration matching one over the lock, sadly without a key. The slope also has bands of brass to the corners of the slope adding some protection. Opening the lid reveals two brass hinges, the writing bed is finished in green baize all intact. At the inside front there are three compartments the central one for pens, gently pushing one end the lid tilts to reveal a lower compartment to store further items. Inside the lid has two brass slide catches allowing it to drop down and reveal the ribbons in place to hold envelopes, there is also an area to hold writing paper and envelopes.
The base lid also lifts and reveals more space to hold those treasured items and if you can find it a secret compartment! The outer base of the slope is also covered in baize protecting the walnut finish.
For those of you who enjoy writing letters, cards to loved ones this slope would really make it very special. Even when not in use it makes an eye catching, interesting addition to your home.
