Personalised and dated folk art hawthorn walking stick. Such a nice touch and the round shape perfect for cupping in your hand!
Beautifully ebonised with just a glimpse of the original timber shining through on the polished stumps of the smoothed twig branches rising up and down the shaft. The stick could be turned in the hand and used top knock the door when calling by. The shape is beautifully formed revealing the grain the handle end.
Such a fine example of a hedgerow folk art walking stick and worthy of adding to your collection and still very usable to this day. Fits in the cup of your hand perfectly as do all of the sticks I have ever come across over the years.
A tiny brass plate plaque has been added at some point with the initials, date by someone for the caretaker of this walking stick with a brass ferrule for protecting the end. The stick is dated 1955 on the plaque, and believed to be dated to the early 1920s.
Inscribed - ICPSA from his Irish friends 1955 - Irish Clay Pigeon Shooting Association founded in 1927 in Dublin. Now the Irish Clay Target Shooting Association who develops various clay pigeon individuals to represent Ireland in international competitions in world events in the Olympics.
